For 9 years, Alfa Grup has earned a place in the hearts and lives of thousands of abandoned babies, children, teenagers and young people, who either lack the support of a family, or live in extreme poverty.

In Romania, over 52,783 children are still in the state protection system, and over 700,000 children fall asleep hungry.

In the summer of 2013, we had made our first contact with abandoned children. We met over 20 sick and lonely babies in a hospital ward. Besides compassion and sadness, our most overwhelming feeling was helplessness.

What could we do for them? How will we help them? Will we be able to replace the love and care of a parent?

Shortly after the visit to the hospital, we entered the first placement center, then the next, followed by the third, the tenth …. We have met hundreds of abandoned children.

These beautiful children are very much like your children or the children in your lives. They have talents, dreams, desires, and passion for life along with a great hunger for affection, acceptance, belonging.

An abandoned child, pointed at, deprived of the protection of a family – is like a tree without roots: insecure, scared, fragile, and especially exposed and doomed to fall when storms come.

In parallel with our work in centers and hospitals, we began to visit children in rural areas who live in conditions of extreme poverty.

Whole communities live from one day to the next, in hunger, cold, and despair, in a world foreign to us who have far beyond what is strictly necessary.

In all these years, hundreds of volunteers, economic agents, and organizations have responded to our call and joined us in investing time and resources to change the seemingly ruined destinies of vulnerable children.

8 years of activity proved to us that it is possible, yes, it is possible to rewrite the story of their lives.

Our Mission

To better understand what we have done so far for children, here is a summary of our 8 years of activity:

We have developed 8 creative programs that meet the needs of these children and simultaneously generate results.
100 institutionalized children and adolescents, with serious and critical medical conditions, have constantly benefited, year after year, from kinesiotherapy – movement therapy similar to a combination of chiropractic occupational & physical therapy – music therapy, play therapy, various educational activities adapted to their level of development.
30 adolescents who left the placement centers at the age of 18-19, alone in the world, without support, resources, or the protection of a family, benefited from accommodation, food, clothing and other material resources, education to acquire independent living skills, support in continuing their studies and in finding a job, counseling and permanent mentoring.
1,000 hospitalized babies received physical therapy, special milk formulas, affection and play therapy, new cribs in new and brightly colored wards, clothing, and many other physical forms of support.

One of our young women, Rozi, has a story of great success! After growing up in the protection system, she has worked her way to a job that she loves. While she continues to learn and grow to this day, she also is in charge of multiple soccer teams within the SEEDS program – connected to Alfa.

She knows her skills and her gifts and is able to use them to raise up the next generation while also imparting character building and empathy for those in the program who are also in the protection system. This is a news video clip and interview that aired exploring her story.

300 institutionalized children, year after year, have been provided with:

– access to high quality dental treatments

– access to complete medical treatments and investigations

– tutoringtutoring – for the Capacity Certificate Examination/Baccalaureate Exam/college admission, as well as in foreign languages

– monthly subscriptions to various sports clubs and sports equipment

– monthly subscriptions for individual classes in dance, singing, painting, guitar

– individual and group psychotherapy

– group meetings with motivational themes and educational purpose

– birthday celebrations

– individual and group sports activities (soccer, dancing, bowling, climbing)

– handmade crafts and painting workshops

– special activities – trips, camps, hiking, barbecue, pizza, playgrounds

– clothes, toys, personal hygiene products, supplies, footwear, etc.

50 abandoned children have developed a long-term relationship (some even for 7 years) with adults and their families – through the Souls Family program.

Dozens and dozens of children with musical skills had the same chance as children from families have to increase their talents by attending classes in dance, painting, singing, guitar, etc. This is how the Alfa Artistic program was born, with its two tracks: Alfa Band and Alfa Dance.

Alfa Band released their first studio album in December 2019 and filmed their first videos: “I can really fly”.

In the summer of 2020, the band’s vocalists participated in the X Factor Romania contest.

100 children from poverty-stricken communities have consistently benefited from:

– education and support in learning healthy living habits and an independent lifestyle skills

– development of practical skills – working on a farm or in the greenhouse.

– support in completing their studies, as well as in finding and maintaining a job

– facilitating social inclusion by developing friendships with new people

– sports activities (football, sheep, hiking, etc.)

– moral education / group activities aimed at increasing self-esteem and social skills

– clothing and footwear needed for each season

– personal hygiene products

– covering the costs of participating in summer trips and camps.

1000 children, youth, and adults on the verge of extreme poverty received food, clothing, footwear, furniture, household appliances, mattresses, and medicines.

• 5 families had their house repaired/restored or even entirely built.

In April of this year, we celebrated 8 years of existence in legal form. In the pandemic context humanity is facing right now, the poverty, loneliness, and hopelessness of these children have become an even heavier burden.

We have decided to cross the borders of Cluj and invite Romanians and compassionate persons from all over the world to join us.
